Evaluation: Combination Of Ancillary And Main Product

I have created a presentation comparing key aspects of my ancillary task and my main task, demonstrating how the two work together to from our final product as well as giving examples of real media products from our chosen artist Taylor Swift.

Evaluation: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

In February, we asked a member of our target audience to watch our most recent edit of our music video. Here is the feed back we received from eight-teen year old Imogen.

Like the branding of Taylor, one of the main aspects we wanted to focus on is the repeatability of our artist. We designed our first question around this and asked Imogen if how relatable she felt our character was. As our feedback was positive we knew we were on the right track in achieving what we set out to.

I also uploaded the same version of our video to facebook, where we recived more detailed feedback from a much wider audience. Here is a link to the feedback we received in December  From this, we would decide and plan what footage we needed to add or change to create a more successful final outcome. We re-filmed using media equipment such as a greenscreen which although didn't  have the desired outcome, I was able to gain a new skill which I would not have without the aid of audience feedback.

Evaluation: Media Technoligy

Production

During the production of our media product, I developed my skills in my use of media equipment.  I was able to bring in my knowledge from other subjects, for example I have been able to demonstrate my skills in the use of studio lighting in the production of both my music video and digi-pak in both filming and photoshoots. I have also shown my ability to film using both DLSR and HD compact cameras to a fairly professional standard n the production of our video which lead to a successful final outcome.

Evaluation: In what ways does your media produce use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I started creating a response to this question by creating a presentation comparing our finished magazine advert to the official magazine advert from Taylor Swift's campaign for the same album which I looked at during our planning stages. In my annotations, I've focused on aspects from Taylor's advert which we kept the same when creating our own media text and therefore conforming to the conventions, and aspects we changed, challenging them.

I then went on to look at how we used elements of Mise en scene to either develop or challenge the forms and conventions of a real media product.  I've taken screen shots from our video and compared them to videos from the same genre which I looked at during the planning stages of our project.

Evaluation: Media Technology

Post- Production

I developed my skills most during the post-
production  area of my advanced portfolio. I
leant new skills in professional Adobe softwares such as Photoshop CS5 and premier pro. In the creation of my digipak, I learnt about posterisation effects and how to create and use digi-pak templates which is something I had never done before.
I premier  I was able to develop a completely new skill- editing sound. In the opening narrative shots of our video the introduction had to be extended in order for us to show our storyline effectively  This was a field I had no experience in but relied on my knowledgeable of editing footage to cut, duplicate and fade over audio tracks.

Evaluation: Media Technoligy

I chose to use different forms of digital technologies in order to create a successful final outcome. One of the ways in which I aimed to achieve this is through my use of blogger, YouTube and Facebook for the planning and production of our music video. I created a YouTube channel to directly address our audience, just as a professional company would.
We used social networking as the main method of communicating with our target audience as we knew that we would be able to reach our audience simultaneously

After conducting reach, we also found that our target audience are known to use these social networking making it the most effective way of contacting with them. Our YouTube channel allowed our audience to track our progress and was also used as a form of documentation. By creating links between all of our sites online, it shows how I have effectively used modern digital technology. They also helped with the production of our final product as we were able to receive feedback when we needed it through YouTube and Facebook.

Blogger enabled me to upload different forms of media through embedding HTML codes for videos and presentations, I learnt how to change the sizes of the items embedded by altering the codes which is something I had never done before. I also found a new way to present images on blogger by turning them into GIF formats; I feel this added a more professional feel to the overall presentation of my blog.

Without the recent development in modern technology, many aspects of my project would have been impossible to complete.

Footage from Todays Filming - Bedroom Fight

This is footage I uploaded to our Youtube Channel as a preview for our 'fans' in the hope to keep a relationship with our target audience and possibly receive feedback. During filming, Jade and I realised that we had to make adjustments to our original plans due to the size of the space on location. Rather than having our protagonist stand in front of the male character, she had to shit down in order for her to fit in the shot with 'Ryan'. We found that this worked to our advantage as it meant that Jade was able to interact with our antagonist physically which meant that the audience were able to understand what was happening more easily.

Planing to Film - 1/04/13

Today Jade and I made plans to film the remainder of our 'bed room' narrative shots on the 1st of April as both us and our antagonist are available.

We have arranged to meet on location, at Jade's house were we will film our opening scenes. We plan to use natural lighting rather than studio for these shots unlike the soft studio lighting we used for our performance shots. We will use the DSLR camera and I plan to experiment with using a shallow depth of field to change the focus points of each shot.

I will have the camera on a tripod to ensure that the tracking motions are as smooth as possible.

Presenting Our Digipak and Advert Ideas

Recording of Written Feedback Video

This is footage of feedback we received from our peers during out screening when they were asked to fill out sheets with suggestions of improvements we could make to our project as well as what they thought 'went well'. I've taken quotes from the sheets and added them as titles in our first class feed back video.

Editing Our Feedback Videos

Today, I edited the footage with the feedback we received from our peers in last Fridays lesson. I also experimented with creating titles in Adobe After Effects, later today I am going to upload our footage onto our Youtube channel.

Self Evaluation

In the process of creating a successful final product, our teacher have arranged for us to have a initial screening. During this, our classmates and teacher will fill out peer assessment sheets and will be able to give us constructive feedback our current product. This will help us as our peers may be able to give us suggestions for improvements in areas we might have missed.

Today, we were given the task of carrying out a self evaluation were we had to give ourselves marks, here are my flowing results;

Advert So Far...

Here is a the current version of our magazine advertisement adjacent to our planning. Its clear to see that we had to make some changes such as the orientation of the artist's name which I thought looks better at the bottom of the spread next to the album cover as they are of equal importance. After having looked at existing magazine adverts, I thought that it would be a good idea to incorporate a strap line at the bottom of our advert.

Putting Together Our Digipak

I downloaded template for a 8 pannel digipak as i didnt think that our original idea of having only 6 pannels was a realistic plan as all of the digipaks I have looked at have more than 6 pannels.

Back Pannel Design

Most of the inspiration for the back of our digipak has been taken from the artwork on a disk featured in pop artist 'Rhianna'. I like how the close up shot allows the artist, in our case Jade, to show her emotion and as we want to put across a playful and cheery tone with our album to appeal to a younger audience, I thought it would be a picture of Jade pulling a 'cheeky' face on the back.

CD Cover So Far...

This is plan for the cover of our digipak and the version ready for our initial screening in the coming weeks. Although I did have to make some changes from our original plan the basic layout is much the same and looks how me and Jade envisioned it would.

One major difference is the textured background, to link with our original influences taken from the lyric video we looked at earlier on in our project. It is also the same background we plan to use the same background in our greenscreen shots in our music video.

Filming With the Green Screen

make a gif

These are shots taken from our latest filming session where we used a green screen for the first time. We set up soft studio lighting to keep so we were able to control and imminent any shadows that would make our shots difficult to edit.

Letter to Taylor Swift

Tzvetan Todorovs Theory of Narrative

Todorov simplified the idea of narrative theory whilst also allowing a more complex interpretation of film texts with his theory of Equilibrium and Disequilibrium. Todorov suggested that conventional narratives are structured in five stages:

1) A state of equilibrium at the outset. Meaning that as we are being introduced to the narrative and the characters at the being of the storyline. At this time the audience will feel neutral towards the characters. We are going to against this aspect of the theory as our video opens with a narrative shot of an argument with our main character and the antagonist.

2) A disruption of equilibrium by some action, something in the storyline occurs to create disorder. Our story will comply with this why having
our main characters break up.

3) A recognition that there has been a disruption, the character realise that something needs to be done to make everything normal.

4) An attempt to repair the disruption would be the main characters (Taylor and our antagonist), talk.

5) A reinstatement of repair the equilibrium, everything returns back to normality. Our protagonist and antagonist get make together.

Health and Safety.
